Fallow Fields at God's House Tower

"The Maypole of Dreams Still Rises in this Fallow Field"

"The Maypole of Dreams is the latest in a series of work centred around the village community that I live in. In my practice I use folklore, folk song and old customs and rituals to explore contemporary issues, particularly social economic disparity. Usually I'm a painter, but for this project I have gathered the hopes and dreams of 7-11 year olds at a local village primary school and 16-18 year olds from a nearby 6th form college and printed them onto my Maypole ribbons so it becomes a sort of wishing tree."

View this, along with the work of others, from January 27th - March 5th 2023 at God's House Tower, Town Quay Road, Southampton, SO14 2NY.
